I would suggest a caster secondary profession to take advantage of fast casting. Anyways you'll probably end up using your primary profession more than your secondary. Also you can always change once you hit a certain point in the game.

I'd say take /M and stick to your primary skills except for a hard rez.
Then unlock the secondaries you like when you're ascended. |

/Mo for rez, as mentioned. You could go /E for more damage, although I wouldn't recommend it. /N is a good one, as some hexes mix well with Illusion magic.
That's all I can think of right now... |

ranger= You can have a pet which helps hold aggro for you in the beginning areas. Later on not as good but You can name your pet
Necro= Not to bad some good spells that will come in handy Monk= When in doubt monk it out (hard Rez) Warrior= I advise no till later (you can have fun with Illusionary weoponary) Elementalist= Very powerful spells that can be copied (glyph of lesser energy is your friend) No wrong choice you can change it later on in the game Last edited by Painbringer; Feb 25, 2008 at 07:03 PM // 19:03.. |

Interestingly, I chose Ranger as my first secondary. I thought bows and pets were cool...I was very wrong. Changed it as soon as I could.

I went mesmer monk as I couldn't think of anything better at the time, it worked fine and got me through most of prophesies.
Nothing wrong with ranger as a secondary and if you like the skills go with that. |

My mesmer started off by taking Elementalist as his secondary profession. Glyph of Lesser Energy is an excellent energy management skill that is extremely useful until you build up a decent repertoire of inspiration magic skills

I have three mesmers---my prophecies one is secondary ranger---she does a lot of interupting and the distracting shot etc helps out on that, and troll ungent. (and she uses a bow-long ranged attacks)
my canthan mesmer is a secondary rit--can rez pretty dang fast! (and can heal too) and my elonian mesmer has a dervish secondary, not going really well with that one, but I needed to unlock the dervish skills so----------(and there are a few healing spells in that line). I think there are some good choices and then some not soo good choices (I would put sin, warrior and dervish on the not so good end). I havent tried /p or /n so I cant really say about those. |

Having monk as secondary is never wrong in PvE, especially as Mesmer self heal is a joke.
Necro is almost as good, curses complement the mesmer skills quite well. Ele is viable but not good, you'll basically become a weak-but-fast-casting-ele-with-severe-energy-management-issues, the skills don't synergize with mesmer skills. My suggestion for the easiest PvE time: monk secondary. |

Ele is actually a very decent secondary for a Mesmer, just don't go fast casting ele.
GoLE is my best friend, you know? |

what's wrong with this game ^^ Would say either monk (people like hardres), ele (for GoLE) or ritualist (splinter + ancestor is good + rit got better hard resses) |

Anyway, to the OP, don't worry about it TOO much. Later in the game, you can change your secondary profession at any time. |
